Estimations of wellbeing Health is commonly estimated in negative terms, for example, the degree of infection and the quantity of passings inside a populace, as opposed to by investigation of positive markers, for example, the nearness of wellbeing. We will compose a custom article test on Sociological Perpestives in Health and Social Care or on the other hand any comparative subject just for you Request Now The study of disease transmission is the investigation of malady roots or cause and how much data about the quantity of individuals inside a populace. Epidemiological information gives important data about the quantity of individuals a populace that are influenced by sick wellbeing, who bite the dust because of specific medical issues and which gatherings of people are most in danger of creating and kicking the bucket from specific sorts of sickness or infection. This data is utilized to distinguish and design fitting wellbeing and social consideration benefits just as wellbeing advancement exercises. The most generally utilized markers are bleakness (nearness of ailment or ailment) and mortality (demise). (Eleanor Landridge, 2007) Morbidity rates Morbidity is hard to quantify as the data is accumulated from a scope of various sources. Information is gathered by the legislature just as the NHS and neighborhood authority social administrations divisions through direct studies of the populace, for example, explicit wellbeing studies, and because of managerial procedures, for instance, when an individual visits a GP or AE office or has an appraisal of requirements. A few sicknesses are required to be accounted for, for instance malignancies and irresistible ailments thus information is gathered through this procedure. The issue with this data is that somewhat it reflects administrations that are accessible as opposed to the genuine image of infection occurrence. People need to likewise communicate their necessities through effectively looking for clinical or social consideration administrations. The individual GHS 2002 meeting incorporates questions with respect to wellbeing and the utilization of wellbeing administrations; this gives data about the individual’s perspective on their wellbeing. The estimation of working days lost because of infection can likewise gi ve a proportion of dismalness to the individuals who are in paid business. As a measure, it is restricted as it just identifies with paid business and this bars numerous ladies who are at home thinking about youngsters or more established individuals just as the individuals who are resigned and incapable to work through handicap. Newborn child death rate (IMR) are additionally utilized as an estimation of wellbeing as this gives data about the quantity of passings that happen in the primary year of life per 1000 live births for every year. The IMR is firmly connected with grown-up death rates as it is delicate to changes in preventive medication and upgrades in wellbeing administrations. Sexual orientation, age, social class and reason for death are factors that can be surveyed through examination of the death rates. Eleanor Landridge, 2007) Disease frequency pervasiveness Within the study of disease transmission the term ‘disease incidence’ is the extent of a gathering that is liberated from a condition yet who create it over a given timeframe, for example, a day, week, month, year or decade. It gauges the quantity of new cases that happen in the populace. The occurrence of a malady will relies upon the reason f or the illness, for instance, why it happens. There may be an irresistible specialist which requires certain conditions for transmission, or it might be that the malady happens because of some hereditary factor, with or without certain inclining ecological conditions. The commonness of a malady depends not just on the frequency (how frequently new cases happen in a specific gathering of individuals), yet in addition on the course of the infection, regardless of whether it tends to be dealt with, to what extent it would last and if individuals can bite the dust because of it. Commonness concentrates hence give a depiction of what number of individuals in the given populace have the particular malady being estimated at a given point in time. Wellbeing observation is progressively accessible, for example, screening for explicit diseases (bosom, cervical, prostate), diabetes, hypertension, raised blood cholesterol levels and bone thickness. These are focused on early discovery of treatable conditions and might be focused at explicit ‘at risk’ bunches inside the populace. In this course of completing this reconnaissance, data about the occurrence and commonness will be accumulated the same number of these treatable conditions might be without indications thus not alert the person to the nearness of an issue. We thought it would be fun to show you some of the team of dedicated translators who helped make this possible. Merci to one and all and thanks for your hard work and enthusiasm in making this happen! Mathieu Bardeau After a Masters degree in management at Edhec Business School, I put into practice what I had been taught, and joined the media industry. Working with the Khan Academy is great because it combines my skills in addition, subtraction, and even multiplication, with my passion for telling stories. Thomas Blasselle I am a math addict! I taught math after college, and eventually became a school book editor specializing in various sciences subjects. Khan Academy’s math look more like what I believe maths should be: a living matter made of reflection and research. Pierre Bondareff I am a physics and chemistry teacher and recently also got my PhD in physics. When I heard about Khan Academy, I was immediately very enthusiastic to participate in this modern adventure. I like teaching to others and Khan Academy allows me to do it in a very direct way. Wherever you are, with a well-working education system or not, an internet connection will be enough to connect yourself on the website and to learn at your pace. Bastien Bruneau I specialized in renewable energy at Ecole Polytechnique, where I am still working for my PhD on plasmas and photovoltaic research. I strongly believe that the Khan Academy brings something new and innovative to the way knowledge is passed on. Romain Cariou I am at the beginning of the end of my thesis on material science and photovoltaic cells, at the Ecole Polytechnique. When I was a student, YouTube was more full of videos of cats and babies, rather than Newtons Laws, Matrix or Stereochemistry. The democratic way of sharing knowledge with Khan Academys approach of is a great initiative; all you need is internet and a little curiosity to benefit from it. Eloa Chosson Ive always been captivated by mathematics. After I graduated from the Toulouse School of Economics, I went to Australia and ended up training horses on remote stations where most children are taught by their parents through a homeschooling system. I thus got a grasp of the importance of distance education and this is why I decided to get involved in the Khan Academy project. I now enjoy translating Sals videos because of his innovative approach and his way of making maths concepts easy to understand and remember. Isabelle Dautriche I am a PhD student at Ecole Normale Supérieure, working on language acquisition (how do infants acquire their native language?) Making some videos for Khan Academy is a great combination with my PhD because when my research gets stuck, I can do a 10min video which will be useful for kids, teenagers and adults. Perhaps this is actually the most useful job that I’ll ever have! Yassine El Ouarzazi I grew up in Casablanca, Morocco, and moved to France when I was 17 to go to engineering school.  I have a passion for science and education, and I immediately fell in love with Khan Academy after watching Salman Khans TED talk. Ramïn Farhangi After getting an Engineering degree from Cornell University and Ecole Centrale Paris, I now live my passion as a Math/Physics teacher in Madrid. I joined the Khan Academy team in France because its fun to make videos, it improves my teaching skills, and because I help providing the world (and notably developing countries) with high quality lessons.Working for Khan Academy has indeed given my life more meaning! Lydie Morel I graduated from a PhD of Neuroscience and spent four years in Boston where I learned English and discovered Salman Khan and his work with the Khan Academy. When I got the lucky opportunity to join the Bibliothèque sans Frontières’ team of translators, I grabbed it! As a kid, I used to play with math exercises in my free time: I always tried to help my schoolmates see the elegant, logic and fun aspects of mathematics.   Muy-Cheng Peich I am currently almost at the end of a PhD in social cognition which focuses on social interaction deficits in neurodegenerative diseases. I have always loved helping others understand things that fascinated me or things that I had found challenging to learn. I strongly believe in the use of technologies to reduce social inequality in education- that’s one the reasons why I joined BSF as the head of the education department. Sophie Pelloux After a PhD in biology, I finally became a general practitioner. I have always been interested in education, in medicine and beyond, and I strongly believe that each student should learn at his/her own pace. I discovered Khan Academy several years ago, while I was trying to help my cousins understand math. One of their issues at that time was that the content was available in English but not in French I am glad to see that the mathematical part is now ready to run in French, and to have the opportunity to translate the health content videos! Nicolas Roux I am currently involved in a PhD where I study water resource in arctic areas, where permafrost (frozen ground) makes access difficult. Teaching is for me as important as research, so I naturally saw in Khan Academy a unique opportunity to reach a larger audience than the one classic teaching could ever possibly allow me to reach. Also a special thanks to the translation team at  Bibliothèques Sans  Frontière!

Why Do Some Students Fail to Study Well

Why Do Some Students Fail to Study Well? Motivation is one of the most important things in each matter. If the person lacks it, he is almost sure not to reach the necessary results and not to meet expectations. I believe that it is one of the main reasons why students fail to achieve their parents’ and teachers’ hopes. They just don’t clearly see what for. As soon as children start going to school, their parents tell them to study well in order to receive high grades. They don’t understand how these grades will be useful for them. Kids just see that in order to succeed in academic sphere, they have to miss a lot of activities that bring them joy and happiness. They lack time to go play in the yard with their friends, don’t have a chance to watch TV or even speak with their parents. And that is the first time they realize that education is bad. Then they start to see that even if they study a lot, it doesn’t necessarily guarantee high grades. There can be other kids who are just lucky and the teacher asks them the only question which they have learned. And that is the moment when they realize that grades and education is not only bad, but also unfair. It is clear – with the aforementioned realizations there is no motivation possible. To my mind, a lot depends on parents. They are the first people who explain their children why studying is essential. I believe that at this stage it is necessary not to concentrate attention on grades, but rather on the way education is important for future. They should explain their kids that educated and smart people are highly valued in the society and that even if other classmates consider those who study well overly diligent, it is necessary to ignore such people and continue their way. It is easy to make your kid intelligent and educated – you just have to apply imagination and be positive.

Pride And Prejudice Best Work Of Austen - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1388 Downloads: 4 Date added: 2019/06/12 Category Literature Essay Level High school Tags: Pride and Prejudice Essay Did you like this example? Pride and Prejudice is Jane Austenrs novel, which was initially named First Impressions, then claimed as Dignity and Perception and at final named as Pride and Prejudice. In 1797 it was sent to publisher by her father. His father gave an offer to make a payment for the publication. It was returned back immediately. There was a written note on it Decline by return Post. It was then published after 16 years in 1813 by Thomas Egerton as Pride and Prejudice. (Jane). Today this novel is known as the greatest novel of the world and is famous as best work of Austen. The novel serves the purpose to enchant its readers through its outlandish parody of craziness or affectation, subtle irony, and distinctive characters. Tegan Bennet Daylight describes a romance, center of whose is a moral fantasy as if it happens to be a dodging from realityrs limits. Jane Austen is a successful writer who has the ability to polarize her audiences; either they revile or revere strongly adore or absolutely abominate her. Your tastes don not affect her writing, she is an author of merit and has a great influence in the progression of English Novels. (T Ellingsen). Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Pride And Prejudice: Best Work Of Austen" essay for you Create order Her novels basically cover the humbler nobility, gentry, and leisured class who lack the tawdry position and wealth. The most fascinating is that her novels were set during churning times of Napoleonic wars and at a time of extreme social unrest and agitation in rural England, characters of her novel are specifically concerned with their own world and surroundings. The critics condemn her insularity and narrowness whereas her fans are in favor of the portraits she makes many titles her as the first modern one novelist who focuses on the development of characters through interactions, conflict and actions. This is because of her characters development, her experimental techniques, narrative and nuances of tone, dramatic interplay, and indirect speech dialogues that her audiences can find her basic concerns. (Oatley) I started reading the book hoping and thinking that it will be a romantic story, but to my disappointment at first the story was slow till halfway with little romance and love but as I continue to read it, it made strong grab on my mind with a curiosity that what is going to happen next. The novel depicts the complexities of the life in lighter way. Every family and every individual person has its own issues and way of looking at life. The writer is right in telling that every individual has his own perspective of life. Some give importance to moral values and ethics while other focus on money and wealth in order to spend a happy life. At the same time some young people are fantasizing their life just like the heroes of the movies. It is not always necessary that a person whom we think is right for us is really made to do so. The literature of the novel describes that parents always want their children to be in best of life and they see their future under the light of their own experiences and sometime it turns out to be difficult to mold their ideas according to the views and ideas of their children. But it is not the same case always that the parents are always wrong, they can feel and sensualize the upcoming situation in their children life and they tried to keep them away from the consequences. In Pride and prejudice one can easily see the beauty of literature master piece. This novel makes you addicted to discover that what is inside the mind of all the characters. As a reader I wanted to know how Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy will find out a way to each other. Will it be possible for Mr. Darcy to convince Elizabeth that he is the perfect man for her? Will Elizabethrs heart melt for Darcy? This Novel is a must read for those who claims that they are book readers. Pride and Prejudice shows us an informal view of domestic livings of Regency England and particularly altering values and codes in courting. The central motif of the novel is the concern how to make it possible to marry five daughters of yours to a young successful man. Mr. and in start the couple wants to marry one of their daughters to Mr. Collin who was the cousin of Bennet. As Mr. Bennet has no son and after his death all the property and money, and house will move to Mr. Collin but later on they got a better option than Mr. Collin. Mrs. Bennet has five daughters and no son. The eldest Daughter is Jane who is stunningly pretty and is destined for newly arrived neighbor Bingley, whereas Elizabeth, the second one with more intelligence, self-command, and character has first reject Mr. Darcy, a rich man, she falls for Wickham, the scoundrel, before rediscovering Darcy. Mary is the middle one and is beyond redemption whereas the two youngest ones named Lydia and Kitty are idle, vain and obsessed uncontrollably to the red uniforms of nearby militia camp. Pride of Darcy is shown right in the beginning of the literature as he refuses to accompany Elizabeth for dance because she is average and not beautiful and handsome enough. Mar Collin is also a characteristic of pride which is prominent in his proposal to Elizabeth. When he declares his love for Elizabeth from that time he was very confident that she will say yes to him. He also makes sure that he needs no financial income from her. He also makes an explanation that why he will be a good choice of her. His words below are clear proofs of his pride in himself and in his wealth. my situation in life, my connections with the family of Lady De Bourgh, and my relationship to your own, are circumstances highly in my favor? . He further says, Your portion is unhappily so small that it will in all likelihood undo the effects of your loveliness and amiable qualifications Elizabeth is her fatherrs favorite daughter and her motherrs least one favorite child and is the central character if the novel. She is in love with Wickham and believes that love is beyond any financial guarantees. Elizabeth makes discriminating judgments and it is Darcy who changes her mind against herself made prejudiced conclusions, telling her that she has very limited experience. Darcy does not represent a society who values wealth, as Elizabeth initially sees him. It was when Darcy starts to move in his world and she alters her views about Wickhams and Darcy. The connection between human values and wealth was recognized by Elizabeth at crucial time when Lydia runs off with scoundrel Wickham. By the end of the novel she gets confused between her father and Darcy but she finally makes it. My dear, do not give way to such gloomy thoughts. Let us hope for better things. Mr. Bennet This passage from the novel explains that it happens sometimes that we overreact, overthink, or unnecessarily worry about few circumstances and situations. While doing so we just tire ourselves. The novel explains that we need to know that sometimes too much control on our emotions can drain our happiness and similarly overexposure of emotions like Lydia can be of no use and can be reason of defame. In Pride and Prejudice, few of the characters are varyingly connected with Pride and Prejudice. Pride is defined as those having an extremely high opinion about themselves, whereas the prejudice ones judge the other people without any sufficient reason. These are the two basic themes which can be seen throughout the book and are shown through different characters including Elizabeth and Darcy, the two lovers as main characters. (Jane). However, some of the reader sees this piece of literature having a message which is beyond psychological and social realism. But for me the novel has moral and practical advice. Lydiars running away contains an excellent message and is useful for the reader to judge the line between greed and wish in making the choice of husband. References: Jane, A. Adults with Mental Retardation Free Essays

Mental retardation is considered to be a condition where in the development of the brain is behind most of the people and disorderly, which also comes before the age of 18 that impairs the ability to learn adequate and relevant skills and knowledge (Ainsworth Baker, 2004). In more simple terms, the condition of mental retardation is where a person’s mental capabilities are behind most people for the particular age group he/she belongs to (Patel, 2002). As these are life-long illnesses, these lasts up to the stage of people where they live as young and adults. We will write a custom essay sample on Adults with Mental Retardation or any similar topic only for you Order Now Mental retardation is indeed a serious condition in which the people with such case are suffering from different difficulties. Normally, a person that is diagnosed with such case, is seem to be of a lower capability to developed mentally, learn and solve problems on their own. As such, mental retardation has within its scope the conditions wherein the person or individual with this diagnosis has a lower than average physical capability. There are different types of mental retardation. First, clinical retardation is considered to be the type of mental retardation which is a result of a particular medical cause (Shepherd, 1982). It can be detected early and that this is associated with insufficiencies in terms of â€Å"neurological, metabolic, or physiological† (Shepherd, 1982, p. 174). The intelligence quotient of the individuals suffering from this is commonly lesser than 50 (Shepherd, 1982). Second, there is also a form of mental retardation that is referred to as social cultural retardation that is milder and usually involves people who have intelligence quotient that ranges from 55 to 69 (Shepherd, 1982). There are several differences that are noticed from that of the first and this classification especially in terms of the degree to which they are disadvantaged (Shepherd, 1982). Needs of Adults with Mental Retardation With the several types of mental retardation and the broad range of illnesses associated with it, there are also different needs that are realized in light of these illnesses (Drew Hardman, 2000). There are several general needs that are required by the adults with mental retardation and while it can be seen that most people also have the same type of need, there are specific types of special attention that are required in light of the disabilities that they have. First, there are residential services that are given to the young and old adults who are suffering from mental retardation (Hersen Van Hasselt, 1998; Fluharty, 1988; Melillo Houde, 2005). It is realized that these adults require more time and a form of special medical attention that could not be given at home, there are shelters which provide for services for a fee. There are changing patterns of familial relationships and set-ups especially with the greater demands such as the need of people to earn a greater rate of income. Likewise, lesser time is spent at home with more people being required to take additional hours at work to finish certain tasks and responsibilities. Second, this particular group of people should have access to information (Walling Irwin, 1995). The situation of these people is that their mental conditions are retarded or are impaired but it has to be realized that it is not totally absent. While it may take them time for them to learn and acquire the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities, patience would lead them to reach the normal condition where they are able to live a life that is near normal. Their state of mental retardation should not be the cause of them being deprived for information services. Rather, they should be the ones who are given a privilege and consideration for such to enable them to accomplish and live the life they are expected to live. Third, there is a need for their mental health to be constantly monitored and given ample medications for individuals suffering from mental health conditions have a greater likelihood of acquiring mental problems (Thyer Wodarski, 2007). In cases where it is applicable, regular monitoring with a doctor is needed to ensure that the condition of the person is maintained to a healthy level and the risk of acquiring mental problems are kept at bay. It is proven that prevention is definitely better than cure and this holds true for mental health. Fourth, the government should be able to provide a subsidy for the young and old adults in terms of their basic and medical needs. There are several programs that intend to provide for care with regard to the mental health of patients and it would be helpful if there are specific health advocacies which are intended mainly for the young and old adults and their needs. This step would take a considerable amount of public lobbying especially for the funds that are required for it. Relevant studies and public policy analysis would have to be made for them with experts on the said field converging together with other authorities in order to come up with a comprehensive and implementable plan for the people with regard to their mental health and other needs. With regard to their basic needs, identification and provision of such would also have to go through the same process in lieu of a stakeholder analysis. Lastly, people with mental retardation also need a greater social sphere where they could interact and learn (Luchterhand Murphy, 1998). They should not be deprived of the right to have social development and should not be isolated from other people simply because of the condition that they have. In fact, the social surrounding that is built for them would greatly help as they cope with the difficulties that they have to face. Community Involvement The primary factor in reaping community involvement is that of a heightened awareness in terms of the real setting that people with mental health retardation have to live in. There are several stereotypes that should be cleared and these include â€Å"lack of inhibitions and moral sense, rigidity, and attention seeking† (as cited in Wiener Dulcan, 2004, p. 238). Members of the community should be involved with programs that are intended to uplift the self-esteem and the living condition of young and old adults with mental retardation. This should require them to deal from the first stage, which is the identification of the problems or the planning stage until the time where these programs are implemented. The members of the community could serve as volunteers and friends of young and old adults with mental retardation, which also broadens the social sphere of both groups (Switzky, Hickson, Schalock, 2006). Constant evaluation through the help of key persons in the community is also necessary to oversee the different problems and achievements that would serve as the constant motivating factor for the members of the initiative. Information Technology is everyone’s business, because the more flexible you are on the Personal Computer (PC) or post PC devices, the better your ability to tap information from the Internet. We will write a custom essay sample on Choosing Your It Career Path or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page IT is what is modernizing and updating every branch of knowledge. Tell me your discipline and I will recommend a software or websites that will make your discipline look simpler. Therefore, people should partly aspire to pursue a career in IT. Before going around asking experts on what IT career path to take or what IT certification to pursue, first the only person you should ask that question is yourself. Whether you want to start an IT career or jumpstart your current one, make the decision to move forward in your career and then follow through on that decision. Because the goal of getting a job is less important than the goal of getting a job that you like. You have to have passion for whatever you are doing. If not, you will not do it very well. So try to get a job that you like, pay the whole of your attention on it and then allow nature to take its course. Also, the passion that led you to a particular field in IT is important, because employers will ask you why you decided to choose a particular field in IT as they are looking for people with natural excitement about starting a career in a particular field in IT. Other than the obvious passion for computers and technology, salary and job growth potential are excellent reasons to consider computer careers. Diversity of computer skills adds to marketability in the workforce. A lawyer that is a Microsoft Certified Professional will benefit more internationally than a lawyer without an MCP. Likewise, a medical doctor that is SQL or Oracle certified will have a better outlook globally than a doctor without any IT certification. Many employers do not have time to train workers on basic skills and expect employees to be more than familiar with computers. If you have an aptitude or interest in math, science or art, and have strong problem solving and analytical skills, you are a perfect candidate for a computer related career. Computer careers can be a solitary work, but often require good communication skills. IT personnel must know how to relay information to clients and co-workers in order to maintain order and efficiency in the system. Computer education is available in many varieties; from certifications, certificate programs, associate degree programs, bachelor’s and even masters degree programs. Many professionals receive degrees in computer science and related fields, but still cannot produce in the local and international IT markets. Therefore, they are required to have specific certifications (for example MCSE-Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, CCNA or MCSA-Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) and some hands-on experience to fit in. In fact, it is better to have a good hands-on experience without having the certifications than having the certifications without knowing the equipment. Companies are more likely to employ candidates with years of experience on Cisco equipment without a certification than candidates with CCNA but lack hands- on experience. The acceptance of computers in business has created a great demand for IT professionals. Almost every industry has a need for IT professional for marketing, client retention and daily operations. Industries such as banking, insurance, hospitals and utilities absolutely rely on them. The information age has created a wealth of career opportunities for computer specialists, elevating their status as knowledgeable professionals and compensating them well financially. If you are a computer specialist, or would like to become one, a career in the IT profession can be obtained in less than a year of study with the current spring of various IT certifications. Certification is recognition given to individuals who have met predetermined qualifications set by an agency of government, industry, or profession. Certification provides verification of individual’s knowledge and experience through evaluation and approval based on a set of standards for specific profession or occupation’s functional job levels. Each certification is designed to stand on its own, and represents a certified individual’s mastery of a particular set of knowledge and skills.

Naturalistic Elements in Maggi a Girl of the Streets Essay Example

Naturalistic Elements in Maggi: a Girl of the Streets Paper He then proceeds to describe the Orrville home life of Jimmies family. Immediately one begins to feel as though no good could come from a situation such as this. The gloomy theme continues as we begin to realize that both of his parents are alcoholics and abusive to their family. The shouting match that ensues after Jimmy is brought home ends in the father leaving to the bar only to return and fight with his mother. Crane uses imagery as the fight proceeds, howls and curses, groans and shrieks, confusingly in chorus as if a battle was raging(Crane 963). By this point in the readers have a grim outlook on the whole situation. To add to the chaos the baby of the family, Tommie, dies and is buried in a white insignificant coffin (964). When the main character Maggie is introduced a slight upswing takes place. Maggie despite her surroundings is a beautiful young lady. She has a respectable Job as a seamstress and has at least a bit of hope. She then meets Pete, and Is Impressed with him and his lifestyle as a bartender. She begins to make the apartment look more appealing In an attempt to Impress him and agrees to go out with Jimmy after he speaks highly of her. This Is to be the last optimistic glimmer Crane gives readers. True to naturalistic style of literature nothing good comes of this relationship. Magpies mother eventually kicks Maggie out and Pete does the same which forces Maggie into prostitution and her eventual death. Her death is the completion of the somber story. Crane did not give the story any sort of a positive come, he wrote it Just as nature or life in this case happened. In naturalistic writing the environment in which the characters live is what defines them. This Is the equivalent to animals in nature. Just as animals become arterial over their hunting grounds as a necessity for survival so do characters in Maggie. This Is a fundamental difference to other writing styles where characters learn and change despite their environment and not because of It. Crane begins chapter two with an image laden description of what had to be the New York Bowers. Eventually teeny entered Into a ark region winner, Trot a careening Dulling, a cozen gruesome doorways gave up loads of babies to the street and the gutter. Formidable women, with uncombed hair and disordered dress, gossiped while leaning on railings, or screamed in frantic quarrels. Withered persons, in curious postures of submission to something, sat smoking pipes in obscure corners. The building quivered and creaked from the weight of humanity(959). This vivid view of slum life shows the class people Magpies family belongs to. They are born into poverty and have very little if any education. Children are raised in the streets and often fall victim to it, either by way of death, or by its cruel reality. The adults are merely an extension of their upbringing. One critic explains The Bowers inhabitants, as we, can be nothing other than what they are; Their human nature responds inexorably to heir brutal environment(Garnett 128). Both Maggie and Jimmy were abused both verbally and physically in almost every aspect of their environment, so inevitably they become molded by it. Jimmy as an adult becomes hard and calloused and Maggie tries to find solace in Pete, who himself falls victim to their sordid environment. Materialistic determinism is yet another naturalistic element found in Maggie. Materialistic determinism is the idea that mans fate is determined by per-existing circumstances rather than their own free will, particularly material things such as environment. Maggie begins to have visions of grandeur shortly after going out with Pete and began to yearn for nicer things. She began to note, with more interest, the well dressed women she met on the avenues(973). Maggie desperately wanted out of the life that she was brought up in, but despite her efforts with Pete she is cast to the streets left to fend for herself. Now that she was banished from her home as well, she resorts to the pre determined life the streets have for her, prostitution. In an essay Charles Walcott explains The impressions that these people are not free gents, and that their freedom is limited as much by their conventional beliefs as by their poverty, are naturalistic concepts completely absorbed into the form of the story'(Walcott 144). This determinism can also be seen in Pete. He futilely attempts to be a part of higher society and ultimately finds himself a victim of a prostitute who uses him for his money. His fate was bound by his environment not by his choices. Naturalistic authors often had to do research into their subject matter to get such a true depiction of the way life was. Shortly before witting Maggie Crane did extensive research throughout the New York Bowers. He would immerse himself for days at a time disguised as a derelict to study and gather material (Calvert). These first hand experiences allowed him to realistically portray the characters and environment. Many Critics view Maggie as the first American naturalist novelette. Throughout the story elements of naturalism are evident. Cranes firsthand knowledge due to research allowed him to show the environment to which the characters were subjected to. These characters were in turn influenced by their environment and despite their aspirations were bound by naturalistic determinism. Thru and thru Maggie: A Girl of the Streets is an excellent example of the literary movement naturalism.

Denouement 101 Definition and Must-Know Tips (With Examples!)

Denouement 101 Definition and Musts!) What is a Denouement? The denouement in the plot of a fictional work refers to the final moments of the story - the closing scenes and sigh of relief after the climax. It's the last stage in the narrative arc of Freytag's Pyramid, following the exposition, rising action, climax, and falling action.Of course, all books end - but a denouement purposefully provides some degree of resolution and fulfills the author's promises to the reader. If you're using the three-act structure to write a climax and then immediately jump 50 years into the future to detail an entirely new plot, only to end on a sudden cliffhanger - well, a denouement that is not. (More on cliffhangers later). What is a denouement? And how do you write one? Find the answers here! With this in mind, we can see the denouement in action when the Capulets and Montagues find Romeo and Juliet’s dead bodies, realize how their actions contributed to the tragedy at hand, and decide to try and make peace. Or Nick Carraway trying and failing to plan Gatsby’s funeral, and then reflecting on his summer in West Egg with one of literature’s most quoted closing lines: â€Å"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.†Alright, now that we all know how to define denouement, let’s start writing one.How to write a denouementBecause all stories have to end at some point, a denouement is universal to every story structure. Individual readers will, naturally, have their own definition of a "satisfying ending" but it usually combines the feeling that you reached a natural conclusion and the wistful hope that you could also know what comes next. Here are a few things to keep in mind while writing your denouement so that it achieves both those feelings. The Hero's Journey: an Author's Guide to Plotting Read post PRO-TIP:  If you're curious about how the denouement figures into narrative structures outside of the three-act structure, we recommend that you read about the Hero's Journey or Dan Harmon's Story Circle.Fire all your fictional â€Å"guns†Most of us have heard of Chekhov’s Gun - the rule that if you let readers know that something is significant, you eventually have to explain why. An unfired gun is therefore an unfulfilled promise. class=tm-tweet-clear> class=tm-click-to-tweet> class=tm-ctt-text>4 tips for writing your novel's 'beginning of the end' - the denouement. class=tm-ctt-tip>This doesn’t mean that you now have to go back through your novel, make a note of every promise you made readers, and then dump the explanations into the denouement. The closing of a story is a place to follow through on the important promises you made to readers - the ones that will add to their understanding of the story. If you have lots of other tiny guns that you haven’t yet fired by the denouement, it probably means you should remove them. That said, you don't necessarily want to over-explain everything. Which brings us to our next point†¦Tie off loose ends - for the most partSome genres come with the expectation of a particular kind of story-ending. Romance novels, for example, typically conclude with a â€Å"Happily Ever After,† where all remaining questions are addressed and we have a complete picture of the characters and their lives moving forward. What is the Narrative Arc? A Guide to Storytelling Through Story Structure Read post Mystery novels also tend to tie up most loose ends - or all the ones that pertain to the mystery at hand, at least. The narrative arc usually reaches its climactic peak when the clues scattered throughout the story suddenly click together in the detective’s mind and they identify the guilty party. After, during the denouement, the rest of the major characters are often gathered round so that the detective can explain to them (and readers) how they cracked the case, and tie up loose ends. A denouement should tie off loose ends but still leave some things in the air. Find out how. While some stories that end by wrapping all their threads into a bow can be satisfying, it can also sometimes feel a little contrived and jolt readers out of the narrative. If you’re not writing a book that specifically needs to resolve all of its uncertainties, you might be better off writing a denouement that achieves the above point of fulfilling promises, but that also leaves a few lingering questions in the characters’ minds - that feeling that there’s still more that could be said. How to End a Story: Tips from Top Editors Read post To see how some famous authors ended their stories, go here.Leave something up in the airIn the novel The Fault in Our Stars, protagonist Hazel Grace talks about her favorite book, a fictional work called An Imperial Affliction. It is revealed that the book ends in the middle of a sentence, and the fates of the characters are left completely up in the air.The abrupt ending gives Hazel pause, and she concludes that the unorthodox conclusion is meant to reflect the uncertainty of death. Hazel reading An Imperial Affliction - and probably frustrated by it's open end (image: 20th Century Fox)Now, this is an extreme way to go about leaving lingering questions in your readers’ minds - one that is sure to frustrate many of them. However, if you want readers to reflect on your story after the final words, you should end your novel in such a way that implies the characters’ lives will continue. You can do this by nudging at potential future events or by demonstrating that while major arcs have been resolved, there are minor conflicts that have yet to be worked out. These are the kinds of endings that leave readers with a sense of longing to know what’s yet to come.Underscore the themeMany fables, such as Aesop’s The Tortoise and The Hair, end by stating the moral: â€Å"The race is not always to the swift.† What is the Theme of Your Story? A Guide for Authors Read post Unless you’re writing an anthology of parables, you probably don’t want to spoon-feed your readers this way. However, the denouement can be a great place to give a final, subtle, nod to your novel’s theme or motifs. Just make sure you’re not being repetitive or heavy-handed. Instead, offer insight that gives readers a final thought to chew on. Not all books need to overtly state their theme at the end. These are the main functions of a denouement, and if you can incorporate these elements into your story’s end, readers are sure to close your book with a satisfied sigh. Next up are a few bonus tips to keep in mind and pitfalls to avoid.Additional tipsDO†¦ show the effects of the character’s inner journeyMost novels feature some kind of â€Å"character vs self† conflict - whether it’s the main conflict of the story, as with Mrs. Dalloway, or a sub-conflict that mirrors a character’s external conflict. It’s their internal conflict that drives the character arc - the inner journey that unfolds over the course of the plot. Don't bail your characters out in the denouement. More tips for ending your story inside! How to Create a Character Profile: the Ultimate Guide (with Template) Read post Just as the narrative arc comes to a head at the climax, so will the character arc. Readers will, therefore, want to know what effect the climax has had on the character and their journey. Character development should continue into the denouement, and we should get a sense of how the events of the story have impacted them.DON’T... bail your plot/characters outA Series of Unfortunate Events is known for exaggerating and parodying tropes and storytelling gaffs. The first installment of the series concludes with the antagonist - Count Olaf - escaping arrest when one of his associates simply turns a light off so that Olaf can escape. While author Lemony Snicket presents readers with this ending in a self-aware, tongue-in-cheek manner, such an ending would is an example of a writer cop out: a denouement that undermines all of the preceding plot and character development.Writer cop outs usually involve a conflict resolution that’s contrived, unbelievable, and not in tune wit h the rest of the story.DO†¦ show, don’t tellIt’s one thing to have a detective list all the clues and rule out all the suspects at the end of a novel. But most novels shouldn’t end with a big speech that explains all of the different aspects of the story. A far more compelling ending is one that shows the appropriate resolution, as opposed to stating it. Check out our new guide for more tips to nail the â€Å"Show, Don’t Tell† rule. class=tm-tweet-clear> class=tm-click-to-tweet> class=tm-ctt-text>We all know the wistful feeling of ending a novel. Find out how to write your own. class=tm-ctt-tip>DON’T†¦ forget to release the tensionAuthors write the story and readers are just along for the ride, right? Wrong. If a story is written well, readers become invested participants in the journey your story unfolds. This is one of the denouement’s most important functions: giving your readers a chance to breathe after the climax, and to see the view from the top of the mountain they’ve just spent pages hiking.DO†¦ think carefully about using cliffhangersThere’s nothing more frustrating than reading through hundreds of pages of a story, only to find it's totally open-ended. And yet, there’s nothing more exciting than starting a second or third novel in a series, keenly anticipating answers that the previous book didn’t supply. Gone Girl ended on a cliffhanger that left many readers fuming. That’s why, if you’re not writing a series, you should approach cliffhangers with caution. Many feel that to end a novel on sudden plot-twist or without any sense of resolution whatsoever is to betray your readers’ trust. So if your stand-alone novel just has to end on a cliffhanger, make sure you lay adequate groundwork and foreshadowing through the story so that readers are caught off-guard - but not left feeling like the rug has been swept out from under them. In other words, your cliffhanger should leave readers speculating, not consternating.Denouement examplesRead on for examples of denouements from famous novels that hit all the marks of a well-written denouement - but be warned: spoilers ahead.Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha ChristieThough the ending of this classic mystery novel answers all the logistical questions of how Cassetti was murdered, the denouement of Murder on the Orient Express doesn’t end on a note of total resolution. It closes with a moral debate: who should be condemned for this crime? In the end, while Poirot feels the murder was justified, there is still a question that hangs in the air: is the law absolute? And if not, where does it fade? Poirot does not seem to reach a conclusion that wholly satisfies this ethical quandary in the denouement. Hence, even though the mystery   reaches a satisfying close, the novel ends on an ellipsis that allows us to reflect on its themes.PRO-TIP: Mysteries in general are great examples of denouements. To see what we mean, you can't go wrong reading more classic works of Agatha Christie. Or if you lean more toward the cozy side,  check out these nine great cozy mystery books! To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper LeeSometimes a denouement echoes the climax as a way of hitting one final nail on the head of theme - without having to overtly state it. Bob Ewell attacking Scout and Jem in To Kill a Mockingbi rd is an example of this: it’s an outcome of the climax that occurs in the denouement and is what really drives Scout’s character development home. The denouement of To Kill a Mockingbird completes Scout's character development in the novel (image: Universal Pictures)In the aftermath of the attack, Scout realizes that Boo Radley saved her and her brother’s life. For the first time, she sees him as a human being rather than the subject of a ghoulish local legend. She also backs up Heck Tate’s decision to report Bob Ewell’s death as an accident in order to spare the already-taunted Boo from the publicity of a trial. Both of these actions and realizations signify Scout’s final steps towards acquiring a more â€Å"adult† and complete moral perspective - one Atticus has been encouraging for the duration of the book. This moral perspective includes the recognition that the human experience is comprised of experiences with both â€Å"good† and â€Å"evil,† and that people have the choice to live consciously without becoming cynical losing hope in human kindness. How to write a denouement that leaves readers wondering: "what could happen next?"   class=tm-ctt-tip>As you can see, the denouement doesn’t need to include fireworks - or even answers to every question a novel poses. Stories where everything works out and everyone rides off into the sunset can feel rather contrived or like a harsh yank from the stories world into reality. Use your denouement to fulfill your promises to your readers but to also leave a small kernel of wondering: what could happen next?Do you have examples of favorite (or most frustrating!) denouements? Perhaps you're currently working on the end of your own novel and have tips for, or questions about, getting it right. Leave any thoughts in the comments below!

Knolege creation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Knolege creation - Essay Example Modern day business research has become restricted to what Tranfield and Starkey refer to as ‘academic fundamentalism’ ( 1998, page 350) . The research concentrates on the theoretical and has little on no practical value for business, but is published purely for selfish reasons, as a means of career enhancement. Their findings are ignored by real business practitioners and read instead the works of management gurus such as Jack and Suzy Welch’s ‘Winning: The Ultimate Business How-to Book’ ( 2005) in order to discover how best to manage their companies. The usual image of a researcher is someone in a flapping white coat, standing in a laboratory surrounded by flasks, retorts and bottles trying to find a new solution to a medical or chemical problem. It is difficult to imagine what a ‘business school researcher’ must look like. It seems to me that the most advantageous future of business schools would be an amalgam of the best of academics and or practise, as described by Starkey and Tempest (2008, pp. ... There is, as always, a need for people trained in the basics of finance , in accounting , human resources and so on, and some people will always stay at these levels. . Managers and, even more so, business leaders require knowledge of these fundamentals of good business, but other things are needed too, such as psychology or philosophy. In mid-level business schools such studies can be provided, and be financed by a variety of sources – government grants, student fees as well as obtaining funds from business backers. If actually receiving funds from businesses their research is more likely to the real needs of business. The economy is going through difficulties worldwide, and this includes the economies of education. All around the globe, if not now, very soon, government funding will be reduced or cut completely. How will the business schools survive? A few perhaps could concentrate their resources and limit themselves to niche aspects of business studies. Failure to do this might result in them becoming merely trade schools. Other schools could turn their resources to promoting environmentally sustainable and profitable businesses, and yet more could set their sights on international co-operation and management. The remainder could specialize upon socially responsible business management in societies that are nevertheless capitalistic. The non-monetary connections between the academic world and that of business could be increased if there were individuals prepared to move more often, an dif this were made easier – from business to academia, from academia to government, from politics to academia. This would result in a combination of academic research and better work place practise.

Workplace Violence Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Workplace Violence - Research Paper Example Non physical violence such as intimidation, abuse, threats etc, physical violence like punching, kicking, pushing etc and aggravated physical violence using weapons are the major categories of workplace violence. â€Å"The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health says there are 3 people murdered every day at work. Murder is the second highest reason for death in the workplace with over 1000 being killed every year!† (Workplace Violence Statistics) Workplace violence is not good for the interests of either the employers or the employees. It can destroy the mutual relationships between the employers and employees. Cooperation is necessary among the employees since most of the organizational works are at present completed using team work. Workplace violence will destroy the cohesion of various teams formed in an organization for completing different works. This paper briefly analyses the topic workplace violence, its causes and possible preventive measures. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, an average of 564 work-related homicides occurred each year in the United States from 2004 to 2008. The BLS reports that "most shootings occurred in the private sector (86 percent) whereas 14 percent of shootings occurred in government. ... ting better salaries compared to the employees of few decades before, but along with the increased salary, they are getting increased stress also from their workplaces because of increased responsibilities. Failure to fulfil the expectations of the employer may result in loss of jobs and hence employees always work under pressure. The employee is connected with his family, society and workplace in different ways. All these institutions give more responsibilities to him. It is difficult for him to find enough time to fulfil all his commitments. Overtime duty is strictly implemented in many organizations because of manpower shortage and overload of works. Thus the current employees are tied most of his times to the organization and they are not getting enough time to meet their other requirements. In short, most of the current employees are working under immense stress which can lead towards workplace violence. Private sector employment laws in America are weaker compared to the public sector laws. Private firms in America give more freedom to the workers as part of their modern scientific management principles. However, workers often exploit their freedom in an unhealthy manner which may lead towards increased workplace violence in the private sector. In public enterprises, strict screening is performed at the gates for guns and weapons, before the employees enter their offices. On the other hand, in private organizations, such intense screening is not there and it is easy for the private employees to enter the company premises with guns like dangerous weapons. One research study about workplace violence showed that: â€Å"91.6% of shootings on the job committed by men and almost 38% of shootings in the workplace happened in "white collar" situations† (Workplace Violence

Testing Issues in Java Technology

Testing Issues in Java Technology INTRODUCTION: Software testing is the method of examining software, to confirm that it satisfy its necessities and to identify errors. Software testing is an experimental examination which is conducted to afford stakeholders with information about the quality of the product or service under test, with respect to the context in which it is intended to operate. Testing can never entirely establish the exactness of computer software. As an alternative, it provides an analysis or a relationship that compares with the state or behavior of the product against a specification. Over its survival, computer software has sustained to grow in convolution and dimension. Testing in the world of Java technology proposes many distinctive and dissimilar challenges. Todays Java engineers are not only faced with multiple platforms, but also the scalability issues like limited memory, nonstandard input, network traffic considerations which are encountered with an increasing array of Java technology-based computationa l devices—from Java Rings, to telephones, to set-top boxes. Because of dealing with many different platforms, and many different types of devices the tests are written in the Java programming language. An automatic software testing is a software function which is used to authenticate that a particular unit of source codes is running as expected. Software testing can be written as: Unit Tests; Integration Tests; or Acceptance Tests. The report also gives an overview of the role of these technologies in Java testing. (ece.cmu.edu) Integration Testing: Integration tests is used to test integration of several classes as against to testing classes in isolation. Mainly in J2EE environments like Web or EJB container gives a more important functionality, hence integration testing has to be conducted in a container. This would test interaction across different application tiers like access to database, EJBs and also other resources. Integration test is occasionally done by Programmers but not as frequently as unit test. Acceptance Tests: Acceptance Test is explained as the group of tests which guarantee the contract between the application API and end user. These tests are done for the completed and deployed application. It is used to check each use-case in which the application is supported. It provides less test coverage and it is main in testing integration of application tiers such as containers and web servers. These tests are done by Quality Assurance testers and not by developers as test operates on external Application Programming Interfaces. Unit Tests Checking of the Developed Project, Programmers write unit tests to verify their own code. Unit testing vary from integration testing, which works well together, and acceptance testing, works according to the customers requirements. Unit testing is the testing mechanism which is used to test a single unit of code. In the case of Java, a unit testing that frequently connects to a distinct class. A unit test is fully automatic, non interactive, and dual ie, it moreover succeeds or be unsuccessful. By executing the code and verifying the output is not a testing. Neither instead of writing a small â€Å"test driver† that neither drives the code nor allows checking logs to see if its working correctly. Unit testing is the code which is written, as a good thing since it leads to higher-quality code, higher productivity, and lower maintenance with good evolution costs. The following report will analyze various Unit Testing technologies like JUnit, TestNG and JTiger. (devx.com) JUnit: JUnit is a unit testing method which is simple and open source frame work for regression testing released by IBM under common license version 5.0 and to write and run repeatable tests on the Java programming language it was hosted on the source forge.Junit is a instance of Xunit architecture which was used for unit testing framework , XUnit was developed by Erich Gamma and Kent Beck. Knowledge and Experience gained with JUnit is very use full in developing test driven application development, and due to this knowledge of JUnit is in use in test driven development. JUnit is also ported to other programming languages like PHP, C#,python, Fortran, Perl, and C++. It is used as PHPUnit in PHP, Nunit in C#, PyUnit in Python , fUnit in Fortran , Test::Class and Test::Unitin Perl and CPPUnit in C++ . All this unit testing frameworks family is collectively reffered as XUnit. Now recently due to the development of new client frameworks like AJAX, Junit has also been developed for use in java sc ript as JSUnit.Junit improves the quality of code and increases the speed of programming. (en.Wikipedia.org) Junit Features include: API for Easily creating Java test Cases Assertions for testing expected results verify expected versus actual result Test fixtures to share test data commonly Test runners to run tests For forums and mailing lists. Aggregating tests (suites) Junit Mechanics: Define a subclass of TestCase. Override the setUp() tearDown()methods. Define one or more public testXXX()methods Exercise the object(s) under test. Asserts the expected results. Define a static suite() factory method Create a TestSuite containing all the tests. Optionally define main() to run the TestCase in batch mode. JUnit Extensions: JUnitReport -Apache Ant extension task -Uses XML and XSLT to generate HTML Cactus -Simple unit testing framework for server side Java coding JWebUnit -Framework for creating acceptance testing for web based applications XMLUnit Provides an XMLTestCase class which enables assertions to be made about the Content and structure of XML MockObject double agent used to test the behavior of other objects Dummy object which mimics the external behavior of a true implementation observes how other objects interact with its methods and compares actual behavior with preset expectations StrutsTestCase testing code based on the Struts framework (javapassion.com) TestNG: TestNG is an annotation-driven Java unit testing framework inspired by JUnit and NUnit which aims to overcome many limitations of JUnit. TestNG isnt just really powerful, innovative, extensible, and flexible; it also illustrates an interesting application of Java Annotations, a great new feature in JDK 5.0. TestNG is designed in such away that it covers all categories in testing like:   unit, functional, end-to-end, integration, etc(testng.org) TestNG Features include: Annotations; no mandatory naming patterns for test methods or extending classes Also Supports Java doc annotations for Java 1.4 Powerful test-fixture set-up and tear-down options JDK 5 Annotations JDK 1.4 also supports JavaDoc annotations. Test configuration is flexible. Data driven testing support using @Data Provider. Parameters support. Distribution of tests in slave systems is allowed. Execution model is much Powerful no need of Test Suite. It is supported many plug-ins and variety of tools like Eclipse, Maven, IDEA, etc. By Embedding with Bean Shell improves flexibility. JDK functions are available by default for logging and runtime. Methods for testing of application server. TestNG Mechanics: Write the business logic of the test and insert TestNG annotations in the code. Adds informations about the test in testng.xml file or in a build.xml (eg. class name etc). Execute TestNG. JTiger: JTiger is a framework for unit testing and has tools for Java 2 Platform. It gives useful abstraction for writing unit test cases and fixtures. Functionalities provided by JTiger is most desired in unit testing of softwares. Generally Test-Driven Development is encouraged by JTiger development, though it is not mandatory, and any unit testing technique in software development is sufficient. Many features of Java Programming Language 1.5 is heavily used by JTiger like Generics, variable argument lists, annotations, etc,. JTiger also encourages users to do documentation of unit test cases and fixtures to give a robust and easy maintain regression harness and unit test. Published and documented API is provided by JTiger frame work if there is a need for extending the functionality. The ability to run the test cases written by using JUint framework is a good example of extending JTiger framework. As a part of JTiger framework JUnit plugin implementation classes are included. (en.Wikipedi a.org) JTiger Features include: JTiger makes every effort to ensure a robust unit test harness by providing a rich set of tools, and a reliable, usable framework on which to develop unit test cases. JTiger is an implementation that is based on improvements in software development methodologies, such as eXtreme Programming (XP), which have matured since their inception. JTiger has been implemented using the same techniques that it encourages, specifically, Test Driven Development. JTiger includes its own unit test and regression harness with 100% method coverage. This aids in new or modified requirements for JTiger that arise in the unforeseen future. The JTiger source code base has been designed to ensure the absolute maximum possible amount of decoupling of components and encapsulation such that future enhancements will not have a negative impact on future versions on JTiger. (userdoc.com) JTiger System Requirements: JTiger requires that tests are executed using a Java Virtual Machine version 1.5 or higher. This does not mean that the code under test must be written using Java 1.5 language features. The software under test may target any JVM version such as 1.2, 1.3 or 1.4. It is merely the test run that must execute under a JVM version 1.5. JTiger is capable of executing test cases that have been written using the JUnit test framework. JTiger Extensions: JTiger future development is being investigated. Some of the features and topics that are under review include the development of a swing GUI interface from which to execute unit test cases, the development of IDE (Integrated Development Environment) plugins for Eclipse, and Intellij IDEA, and the possibility of a mock objects package that mocks J2SE and J2EE core classes. The growing complexity and diversity of softwares—with their varying operating systems, processors, and memory configurations—increases the need for thorough testing to ensure customers will be satisfied. At the same time, service providers and manufacturers face the challenge of managing—and, if possible, lowering—internal costs caused by excessive engineering overhead, disorganized development of test cases, or the impact of new data services on support operations. The Java software Test Suite simplifies quality assurance and reduces time-to-market for Java implementations by providing comprehensive tests and a robust test manager. These enable suite users to evaluate, validate, and verify the quality of implementations on particular software. The Java Test Suite that helps the software manu facturers ensures their reputation for quality, while building customer satisfaction and loyalty. It helps lower engineering costs by standardizing and simplifying testing, and by minimizing the need to write quality assurance tests manually. Java is free and open. So java Testing is an important part of software development because of Open Source Testing Tools which are available in Java for an Effective testing key factor which reduces the total cost of maintenance of any application over its lifetime. Because of the reduced cost and time of development; this can increase savings on quality assurance and of course on sustaining. Without knowing when to invest in better design, in post development quality assurance, in manual tests or in automatic testing forms a basic difference between successful and unsuccessful software projects in these tough and competitive days. Its very widely extensible with the use of scores of plugins available to help in developing these applications, so here I would like to discuss some of the plugins available for software testing. Eclipse TPTP (an evolution of Eclipses prior Hyades project) is an Open Source collaborative project that seeks to provide a common platform upon which specialized, differentiated, and interoperable offerings for software test and performance tools are created. TPTP, which stands for Test and Performance Tools Platform, supplies extensible frameworks and services for test and performance tools that are used throughout the application lifecycle, from development through production. It also delivers extensible exemplary tools that verify the utility of, illustrate the appropriate use of, and support the development and maintenance of the platform itself. (fres hmeat.net) TPTP This provides a reference implementation of the recent UML2 Testing Profile based upon the Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF). For logging and tracing, TPTP employs the Common-Base-Event (CBE) Format, which defines the structure of events in a unifying format. Data pools are a concept which appears to be innovative for testing in Eclipse. A datapool contains data usable during a test run. Data pools are stored in a comma-separated file and can be displayed as an Excel-alike data sheet. Test cases can load datapools in the setUp() method and use the dedicated iterations to retrieve cell values for evaluation purposes. Separating test data from the tests themselves appears to be new functionality. Test Deployment requires the allocation of test artifacts to test locations. These locations can also be workbench locations. Through the concept of service abstraction, the Automatable services framework introduces a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) concept to TPTP. The framework introduce s a layered architecture in which a client at a lower layer employs a model adapter to employ a service provided at a higher layer. Automation Client Adapters allow normal Java programs to consume Eclipse services. These adapters can launch a headless Eclipse from a specified Eclipse home, and are available through the tptp-automation-client jar. Various properties are made available through this API (e.g., the project property specifying a specific project in the workspace of the Eclipse instance). (freshmeat.net) Solex Web Application Testing with Eclipse Solex is a free open source Web application testing tool built as a plug-in for the Eclipse IDE. It provides functions to record a client session adjust it according to various parameters and replay it later typically in order to ensure non regression of the applications behaviour (with stress testing capabilities being added at a later stage). By recording, we mean that Solex acts as an HTTP proxy and records all HTTP requests and responses going through the wire between a Web client (eg. a Web browser) and a Web server. The task of replaying a scenario consists in sending the previously recorded and eventually customized HTTP requests to the server and asserting each response. Solex 0.5.0 works with Eclipse Release 2.1.2, Build id: 200311030802 and Solex 0.5.3 works with Eclipse Release 3.1.1, Build id: M20050929-0840. (Solex.com) Unit testing Checking of the Developed Project, Programmers write unit tests to verify their own code. (devx.com) Unit Testing in Eclipse Using JUnit Unit Testing in Eclipse 3.1 move towards through the JUnit mechanism which was constructed in the Workplace. Eclipse permits a quick creation of test case class and also to provide a testing suite class to write the testing codes in. By means of Eclipse, we use a Test Driven Development (TDD) which suit for a very simple mechanism to systematize and implement. The class which we wanted to test is created at 1st and so that the Eclipse finds a class that is underneath test and construct the test case class. The test cases are constructed with the desired trade in and expansion for JUnit to Execute. The test case classes are constructed with the real test case and then it is coded in through the programmer. The formation of test suite in Eclipse is still simpler. By designing a test suite, Eclipse will specify a name for specifying all of the test cases in the scope of the project. The code is to Execute test suites and to add test cases in the created software is added to the test sui tes. (open.ncsu.edu) JUnit Naming Convention: Testing Cases and Classes: Named with [classnames]First.java, hear classname is being tested for the classnames. Testing Cases with Test Methods: Name test [methodnames], where methodnames are the method name to test. Applying Test Suites: Eclipse which has a default name as First.java It is a well known thought-out for a good performance in testing, and to split the test case code from the application code. It is also a good idea which is to separate the JUnit and FIT tests as well. (open.ncsu.edu) EMPIRICAL i.e. STATISTICS AND NON-EMPIRIC TESTING: Empirical testing: Similar to theoretical tests, there is one more test called empirical test; which is being done by computers. As per the computer point of view ‘empirical means ‘experiments with certain PRNG. The generator itself is treated as black box; only the sequence of PRNs is generated and is taken for evaluating the test statistic. In order to find the empirical test, one has to implement the PRNG and the test statistic. The limitations of empirical testing are commonly proposed by the amount of time and memory needed due to the complexity of the computations. (random.mat.sbg.ac.at) Non-empirical testing: Non-empirical testing deals with non-parametric statistical models and non-parametric inference, including non-parametric statistical tests. Nonparametric methods which are often referred as distribution free methods, since they do not rely on assumptions in which the data are drawn from a given probability distribution. Non-parametric statistic can be explained as a statistic (a function on a sample) whose interpretation does not depend on the population fitting any parameterized distributions. The example for one such statistic is order statistics; which plays a vital role in many non-parametric approaches. (en.wikipedia.org) Applications and purpose: For studying populations that has been taken on a ranked order (such as movie reviews receiving one to four stars) is called Non-parametric methods. The uses of non-parametric methods may be necessary, when the data has a ranking but no clear numerical interpretation, such as when assessing the preferences. Usually non-parametric methods make fewer assumptions; other than the parametric methods, depends upon their applicability. In particular, they may be applied in situations where less is known about the application in question. Non-parametric methods are more robust due to the reliance on fewer assumptions and simplicity. Non-parametric methods may be easier to use in certain cases, when the use of parametric methods is justified. As per some statisticians, non-parametric methods are not useful because of their simplicity and greater robustness leading to leave less room for improper use and misunderstanding. (en.wikipedia.org) Recommendations: Example of a JAVA Based Application: The Table below represents an example security standard for a Java application; and mentions the type of software testing used in each controls. These Kind of security standard in applications will define how exactly the application security functionalities will behave. TYPE Questions Unit Integration Acceptance Input Validation Whether all the user inputs are proper in length and data type? X X X Authorization of Application Whether the application properly controls the accessing privileges? X X Storage Whether authentication privileges are stored securely? X Manipulation Whether application enforces its access controls? X X Special Characters Whether special characters are handled securely? X X X Error Messages Whether error message generic? X X Legacy data Whether data are removed? X It is clear that the Above Types can be tested more on using functional than, integration testing techniques. Lesser security functionality is tested by Unit tests, as lot of security functionality are provided in other modules like, web server and web container. The following sections will provide more details on performing security based tests in unit test, integration test and acceptance test: Testing in Unit Tests: Testing of classes and methods individually provides a best approach to functionality testing of codes. A unit test has to be performed on classes and methods individually without a any dependency on the other methods and classes. This issue gives limitation to the types of security tests which has to be performed, Hence this is going to test is going to be executed in very early stage of the development process. Testing Independently: Unit tests should only depends on the single independent class and it should not depend on Composition class or any base classes Testing Vulnerability: The number of security Types that are been verified by us

Product Quality

Does product quality guarantee the success of a business? Various factors are analyzed to examine whether or not a good quality product by itself can propel a business into success. A product of good quality can be defined as one that best satisfies the consumer’s needs at the price they are willing to pay. While it is integral to business success, it is certainly not the only factor that guarantees it, simply because businesses function as an integrated whole, and the success of only one part does not guarantee success of the entire organization.Business success can be referred to as an achievement of common objectives such as profitability, growth, or increasing market share. A good quality product undeniably brings positive contributions to the success of a business. One benefit is customer satisfaction. Once they are satisfied with the product, the customer will be likely to make repeat purchases, and over time develop a strong loyalty towards the brand. When the business has a reputation for producing good quality products with a strong customer base, it establishes itself in a strong position in the market, giving it the opportunity to increase its market share. As a result, retailers would be more willing to stock their products, giving the business more options in terms of the channel of distribution, and thus giving them a competitive advantage. This can also lead to marketing economies of scale, whereby a cross marketing of brands can be used to strongly promote different products simultaneously because an overall positive brand image has been created. Another cost saving is that fewer complaints will need to be dealt with, and because of this, fewer repairs and wastage costs will be incurred. These savings of average costs could then be kept as retained profits, or invested in business growth, proving beneficial to business success. Read more in Business  « Globalization: A Natural Phenomenon Establishing Business Communications in an Emerging Company  » It is evident, then, that businesses must find some sort of way of monitoring quality that best suits them to ensure quality products are consistently produced. This could involve quality control, where inspectors check a sample of finished products for defects, or quality assurance, where quality is the responsibility of each worker and is built into the production process.Quality control could perhaps work better with management that believe in a more strictly controlled work environment, whereas quality assurance works better if management empower and trust workers more, allowing them participation in the improvement process. Provided these methods are implemented well enough, and are appropriate to the corporate culture of the business, this crucial aspect influencing business success can be ensured. However, because businesses operate in complex environments there are many other contributing factors to business success, which, if not integrated with good product qu ality, will have negative effects. From a marketing perspective, in the research and development stage, market research must be conducted accurately to predict demand; otherwise, even if a very good quality product is produced, if a target market is not defined or there is no demand for it at all, then the product will fail.In the development process, value analysis should be conducted, where the appearance, performance and the economy of manufacture of the product should be compared to achieve an ideal balance. If the business solely relied on product quality, it would focus on appearance and performance and neglect the economy of manufacture, which could lead to the production of a good that customers find to be of high quality, but costs so much to produce that it is not profitable to the business, and not worth making.
